| Out
the fertile musical grounds of Amsterdam comes this instrumental 6-song
EP by producer Jay.Soul (prev. credits include Sole Profit, Corey, NineFifty,
remixes Michael Franti, The Proov and Nas' Made U Look) and his elusive
twin brother Mr.Windmill. Although these Dutch siblings have secretly
been cooking up tasty treats together in their treehouse studio for years,
The Perculationn EP marks their first official release as a duo.
What connects
the 6 diverse tracks on this record are the seriously funky, beat-heavy
grooves, clever arrangements and overall organic sound. Other than that,
Mr.Windmill & Jay.Soul don't confine themselves to any particular
style or genre. They move comfortably from the broken vibes of "Hugo
Hovenkampp" and "TheWayThatt", via sexy 4-to-the-floor
with a hip-hop feel on "Peterr Boeve" (featured in an upcoming
compilation on 08Bar Records (Rushhour) and jazzy house on "Nasty
Beauty", to the dirty synthbass driven breakbeat of "Hoppa Kayy!",
and all the way down to the laidback, African percussion-laden dillafunk
displayed in "Have You Everr?".
Their 18-track
(!) promo cdr has already gotten praise and play from the likes of KC
the Funkaholic (Kindred Spirits), Jay Scarlett, Rich Medina and Andrew
Jervis (Ubiquity) among others and is recommended for fans of Mark De
Clive-Lowe, Spinna, Bugz, Jay Dee/Dilla, Mitsu, Kid Sublime, Rednose,
Domu, Jazzanova, etc.
