Transitions
is continuing on the theme of not having a theme. Ism heads Swingsett
& J.Warrin have put together another eclectic compilation thats
equal in both bump and chillout. Ism Records's Manhattan and Brooklyn-based
mainstays like Swingsett, J.Warrin, Takuya, Duermo, Dave Warrin aka
Mindflight and the Netherlands' Twilight Circus (Modern Dub producer
extraordinaire of M Records fame) all contribute genre-dodging music,
varying from uptempo breaks, soul, dub, 2-step and nu-jazz.
These producers
are combined with Cologne, Germany's phoneheads, providing the broken
beats and bass bomb called "shell", driven by warm fender
rhodes licks, along with West London's Lacarno & Burns, offering
the lushly orchestrated beats in "Mahayana" and an incredible
Afronaught (Orin Walters) nocturnal dub of Everyday People's "I
Can't Sleep". He's a member of the prolific Bugz In The Attic Collective
and Bittasweet Records UK. As if that were not enough good music, Transitions
also features the blissfully melodic, yet heavily percussive soulfull
breakbeat excursion, "Glistening" by New Zealander Denver
McCarthy and two forward-thinking deep 2-step tracks from London's own
Mr. Magic. Both songs are taken from the first single on O'Bleek Intelligence.
A label pushing boundaries within 2-step, breaks and house. This collection
of music showcases the cutting edge of soulfully charged dance and chillout
music, blending many styles into one.
